The Disney-Fox Acquisition Is Complete And What That Means For The MCU

“Twenty-First Century Fox, Inc. (“21CF”) (NASDAQ: TFCFA, TFCF) announced that it has today completed the distribution of all issued and outstanding shares of Fox Corporation (“FOX”) common stock to 21CF stockholders (other than holders of the shares held by subsidiaries of 21CF) on a pro rata basis (the “Distribution”). 21CF and FOX are now each a standalone, publicly traded company. FOX Class A common stock and FOX Class B common stock are now listed on the Nasdaq Global Select Market (“Nasdaq”) under the symbols “FOXA” and “FOX,” respectively. 21CF Class A common stock and 21CF Class B common stock, which were formerly listed on Nasdaq under the symbols “FOXA” and “FOX,” respectively, are now listed on Nasdaq under the symbols “TFCFA” and “TFCF,” respectively.”

It’s taken two years, but it looks like we are finally nearing the finish line. That quote looks like a whole bunch of nonsense, but this is basically what it means for fans of the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe):

Marvel currently holds the rights to Captain America, Hawkeye, Thor, Iron Man, Hulk, Black Panther, Ant-Man, Dr. Strange, Captain Marvel, The Guardians of the Galaxy, etc. etc. etc. What they are now adding is The X-Men (Wolverine, Professor X, and Cyclops, Jean Grey etc.), The Fantastic Four, Deadpool and Cable. This paves the way for crossovers between a lot of our favorite movie comic book movie characters, albeit some of the 21CF ones will likely be rebooted (sorry, Hugh Jackman).

How long will it be before we start to see these crossover films? That is a much harder question to answer, and I’d much prefer they take as much time as possible finding a way to gently fold the characters in without it jarring us too much. Besides working on how the new characters will incorporate, they will also have to work out what happens with shared character Quicksilver, who is dead in the MCU (played by Aaron Tyler Johnson) but very much alive and important in the X-Men franchise (played by Evan Peters).

However it ends up, Marvel has earned unlimited trust in my opinion. So we are sure to have nothing but more entertaining movies to look forward to in the future.
